New President, New Year, new business?
What impact will Barack Obama have on global confidence?
On the day America swore in their 44th President, the UK sunk even more money into the banks, it was revealed that unemployment had gone up by 131,000 Sept-Nov’08, M&A and IPO options have dried up. However, closer to home entrepreneurs are winning new clients, new products are being launched and services tried out.
Entrepreneurs are by nature an optimistic bunch, come along next Tues for a business pick-me-up along with your morning coffee. New collaborations are being formed and profitable markets addressed.
The difficult we can solve over a morning coffee; the impossible take a little longer (with apologies).
I’m still taking ideas for “guest” speakers or mini-themes; current ideas include speed-updating, monetising your IP, cash flow & getting clients to pay on time, and new product showcasing. Feel free to drop ideas in the comments or drop me an email johnb@jbsh.co.uk.
Update: New product launched link now goes to KatugasLex, the new product from Nigel Legg.
Welcome to 2009!
Thanks to everyone that helped with the short survey about how to develop OpenCoffee Bristol in 2009.
I’ll keep the survey open for a while so feel free to contribute if you haven’t yet. So far, here’s how the results break down:
- Most people liked Tues (62%) as their first choice
- It was a bit closer on second choice but Wed (38%) beat off Tues & Fri (both at 19%).
- The hands down favourite start time was 08.30
- Almost 50% liked Starbucks on Park Stand I’ll look at the one new suggestion (Barista’s on Victoria St).
- Most people liked the informal nature (68%) but guest speakers were the favourite option for change.
So for those of you with OpenCoffee as a recurring appointment in your diaries, you’ll know that next Tues is next in the cycle. Starting from 8.30am we’ll be downstairs in Starbucks on Park St. I’ll see about guest speakers, or perhaps have a guest expert on hand to give a quick introduction and mediate discussions. Seeing as most people are happy with the informal approach the guest speakers will be an occasional feature just to keep things bouncing along.
Thanks again for the support and see you all on Tues, 13 January from 8.30am in Starbucks on Park St.
